Privacy policy
Effective August 9, 2026
This policy explains what information KookItUp ("we", "us") collects when you use the KookItUp app, why we collect it, and who we share it with. KookItUp is made by an independent developer, not a large company, and this policy is written to be a plain, accurate account of what actually happens with your data rather than boilerplate.
Information we collect
Account information
To use KookItUp you create an account with an email address and password. Authentication is handled by our database provider, Supabase; we don't store your raw password ourselves. You can also set a display name, which is used for in-app greetings.
Content you create
Everything you add to the app, recipes, meal plans, cook history, pantry items, notes, and any photos you attach to a recipe or a cook, is stored in our database, tied to your account. This is the core of what makes the app work, and it's never visible to other users unless you explicitly choose to share or publish it (for example, sharing a single recipe via a link, or publishing a recipe to the Explore catalog).
Information sent to AI providers
When you ask KookItUp to turn a pasted link, photo, video, or block of text into a recipe, or to generate a prep checklist, or to plan a combined cooking session, that content is sent to a third-party AI model (currently Anthropic's Claude or Google's Gemini, depending on internal configuration) to be structured into a recipe. When you import from a YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok link, the video URL may also be sent to Supadata, a transcript provider, to retrieve the video's caption or transcript text. These calls happen on our server, not directly from your device, and the content sent is limited to what's needed to extract the recipe, plan, or checklist you asked for.
Purchase information
Subscription purchases are handled entirely by the Apple App Store (and, in future, Google Play) together with our subscription infrastructure provider, RevenueCat. We never see your payment card details. We do receive confirmation of your subscription status (active, cancelled, expired) so the app can unlock or lock premium features correctly.
Diagnostic and usage information
If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a crash report is sent to our error-tracking provider, Sentry, so we can fix it. We also log technical details about AI feature calls (which feature was used, how long it took, whether it succeeded), via PostHog, so we can monitor cost and reliability. Neither of these is used for advertising, and neither is shared with or sold to any advertiser or data broker.
How we use your information
- To operate the app: sync your recipes and plans across your devices.
- To provide AI-powered features you explicitly ask for, like recipe import.
- To manage your subscription and unlock the features you've paid for.
- To fix bugs and keep the app reliable.
- To respond when you email us with a question or request.
We do not use your data to serve you ads, and we do not sell your personal data.
Third-party services we use
These are the services KookItUp relies on, and what each one handles:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage.
- Anthropic and Google (Gemini) — AI models used to structure recipes and cooking plans from text, links, photos, or videos you submit.
- Supadata — retrieves transcripts or captions for video links you import.
- RevenueCat — subscription management, layered on top of the Apple App Store.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- PostHog — technical logging for AI feature cost and reliability, not advertising analytics.
Each of these providers processes data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments, and only to the extent needed to provide the part of the service they support.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. From Settings, you can delete individual recipes, wipe your recipes entirely, or reset all of your app data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data permanently, email us at support@kookitup.com and we'll process the request promptly.
Children's privacy
KookItUp is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Your data is stored with row-level access controls so that only your own account can read or write your recipes, plans, and history. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure credential storage (Keychain on iOS), not in plain app storage.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
